8 Random Short Stories with Moral Lessons

Life is a series of stories. Stories that are divided into chapters. Every chapter is set with several plots and played with different characters. We learn and grow from what we read and know. Apart from the setting of the story, there is a moral lesson that we all need to learn from.
As part of my fascination with reading and listening to different stories, I have collated 8 Random Short Stories with Moral Lessons.
1. The Boy on a Train

A 24-year-old boy, seeing out of the train’s window, shouted.
“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”
Dad smiled.
And a young couple sitting nearby looked with pity at the 24-year-old’s childish behavior.
Suddenly, he exclaimed again.
“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”
The couple could not resist and told the old man.
“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”
The old man smiled and said,
“I did, and we came from the hospital. My son was blind from birth, and he just got his eyes today.” Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you.
2. The Blind Girl

There was a blind girl who hated herself for being blind. The only person she didn’t hate was her loving boyfriend, as he was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry him.
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her; now she could see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, “Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?”
The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind too, and she refused to marry him. Her boyfriend walked away in tears and later wrote a letter to her, saying: “Just take care of my eyes, dear.”
3. The Angry Little Boy

There once was a little boy who had a very bad temper. His father decided to hand him a bag of nails and said that every time the boy lost his temper, he had to hammer a nail into the fence.
On the first day, the boy hammered 37 nails into that fence.
The boy gradually began to control his temper over the next few weeks, and the number of nails he was hammering into the fence slowly decreased.
He discovered it was easier to control his temper than to hammer those nails into the fence.
Finally, the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father the news, and the father suggested that the boy should now pull out a nail every day if he kept his temper under control.
The days passed, and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.
“You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say, ‘I’m sorry,’ the wound is still there.” Control your anger. Don’t let your anger control you. If you are mad, don’t say anything you’ll regret later. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say it. Calm down, and then do whatever you have to do.
4. The Butterfly

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day, a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.
Suddenly, it stopped making any progress and looked like it was stuck.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man didn’t think anything of it and sat there waiting for the wings to enlarge to support the butterfly. But that didn’t happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling around with tiny wings and a swollen body.
Even though the man was kind, he didn’t realize that the tight cocoon and the butterfly’s struggle to get through the small opening were God’s way of forcing fluid from the butterfly’s body into its wings so that it would be ready to fly once it got out of the cocoon. Our struggles in life develop our strengths. Without struggles, we never grow or become stronger, so it’s important that we face challenges on our own rather than always relying on others for assistance.
5. The College Student

There was a college student who shared how he had trusted God to meet his financial needs for the upcoming semester. He wasn’t sure if he would receive the grants he needed to cover his tuition fees. As the day for registration approached, he began to worry about what would happen should the money not be there. These thoughts gave way to fear.
Finally, he prayed, “Lord, you brought me here, and I’m going to start trusting you right now. I know you have all the money that I could possibly need for college. Please meet that need in your way and in your timing.”
The next day, he went to enroll in classes without money in his pocket. Standing in line, he continued to pray silently and refused to listen to the prodding of the enemy, who asked him to leave school.
As he approached the financial aid table, a counselor smiled and said, “John, you have received your tuition grants, and the college has also given you grants.”
He could hardly contain himself. The amount was just what he needed. The unexpected money would be used to purchase his books for class.
When you place your trust in God, you will never be disappointed. God always provides for your needs.
6. Love and Time

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all the others, including Love.
One day it was announced to the feelings that the island was going to sink, so they all needed to vacate it as soon as possible. All the feelings prepared their boats and left. Love was the only one who stayed.
Love wanted to stay until it started sinking. When Love was almost sinking, he decided to ask for help.
Wealth was passing by Love in a beautiful boat. Love said, “Wealth, can you take me with you?”
Wealth answered, “No, I can’t… There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you.”
Love decided to ask Vanity, who was also passing by, “Vanity, please help me!”
“I can’t help you, Love. You are all wet and can probably damage my boat,” Vanity answered.
Sadness was close by, so Love asked for help, “Sadness, let me go with you.”
“Oh…Love, I am so sad that I prefer to go alone!”
Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not hear when Love called her!
Suddenly, there was a voice, “Come, Love, I will take you.” It was an elder. Love became so happy that he even forgot to ask the elder her name. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went on her own way.
Love asked Knowledge, another elder, the name of the elder who had helped him. “It was Time,” answered Knowledge.
“Time? But why did Time help me?” asked Love. “Because only Time can understand how valuable Love is,” answered Knowledge.
7. The Grandfather and the Grandson

A wise old man saw his grandson having a heated discussion with his wife. He asked his grandson, “Why do you raise your voice when you are arguing with your wife?”
The grandson replied, “I lose patience when she doesn’t understand my point of view, and that is why I raise my voice.”
The grandfather said, “But your wife is close enough for her to hear you even when you say the same sentence in a calm manner. Why do you have to raise your voice?”
“I raise my voice so that my voice is heard, and I can also let out the steam by raising my voice,” the grandson replied.
The grandfather said, “That is not the exact reason for you to raise your voice. The real reason is that when you are angry with your wife, your heart moves away from her heart. So even though you are physically close to each other, you feel that you are far away from one another, and hence raise your voice.”
“If that is the reason for raising the voice, what do we do when we are in love?” the grandson asked. The grandfather responded, “When two people are in love, their hearts are close to each other. Even if you whisper softly, you both can hear very clearly. At such times, one can communicate with their loved ones even through the language of silence.”
8. The Little Girl

A little girl ran to her bedroom and pulled out her piggy bank from a secret drawer in her closet. She broke the piggy bank and carefully counted the coins.
She placed the coins in a jar and twisted on the cap. She took the jar full of coins and slipped out of the back door. She made her way six blocks to a drug store.
She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention, but he was too busy attending to other customers at that moment.
She tried several times to get his attention, but she wasn’t successful. Finally, she took a quarter from her jar and banged on the glass counter, which was finally able to get her some attention.
“And what do you want, little miss?” the pharmacist asked the little girl in front of his counter.
“My brother is really sick, and I want to buy a miracle,” the girl replied.
“I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist.
“My brother is really sick, and my dad says only a miracle can cure him now. So, I want to get a miracle for him. How much does a miracle cost?”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help you. We don’t sell miracles here, little girl,” the pharmacist said, softening a little.
“Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn’t enough, I will get more. Just tell me how much it costs.”
Next to the little girl was a tall, well-dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, “What kind of miracle does your brother need?”
“I don’t know,” the girl replied with her eyes filled with tears. “I just know he is very sick and has something bad growing inside his head. The doctors said he needs an operation. But my dad can’t pay for it, so we need a miracle to save him now. I can use all my money to save my brother.”
“How much do you have?” asked the man.
“One dollar and twelve cents, that’s all the money I have now, but I can get some more if needed,” the girl answered barely audibly.
“Well, what a coincidence!” the man said. “A dollar and twelve cents, that is the exact price of a miracle for a little brother.”
He took her money in one hand, and with the other hand, he softly held her hand and said, “Take me to your brother. I want to meet your parents and see your brother. Let’s see if I have the miracle your brother needs.”
The man was a reputed neurosurgeon. He was just the right person needed to save the little boy’s life. The operation was completed without any charges, and it wasn’t long until the little girl’s brother was home again and doing well.
The parents were happily talking about what happened. “That surgery,” the mother whispered, “it was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost.”
The little girl smiled, knowing how much a miracle costs. One hundred pesos and twelve cents, plus the faith of a little child.
