Sense of Touch

She used to smile and laugh so loud.
Until one day, she came over with a heavy heart.
She said that everything was fine, but I clearly saw the sadness reflected in her eyes.
Then I held her hands and she suddenly sobbed.
I felt the pain when she poured out her heart.
No words were spoken at that point of time.
But it was the moment when her heart screamed the loudest.
I wanted to say that her emotions are valid and her pain is real, but I also knew that comforting someone is sometimes best expressed in silence with a soul that listens.
She did not say a word, but she held my hands more tightly.
Deep within, I heard her heart pleading.
With desperation to console her aching heart, I started to speak words of wisdom, hoping to ease her pain.
She would nod but I knew that she was still hurting inside.
Running out words, I leaned towards her to gently give her a hug.
That moment, I felt her restless heart calmed down.
It is so amazing how the sense of touch can powerfully deliver a message beyond words and deeds.
It is one of the languages of love that establishes trust and relationship with someone.
We could say a lot of words, but there are things that only our hands can heal.
It is a medium of love that communicates compassion and mercy.
I personally do it most of the time when I can’t put into words how exactly I feel.
There are times when I feel awkward saying “I’m sorry” and “I love you” to people dear to my heart.
So I would either tap their back or touch their arms and hold their hands. It depends on the level of the relationship.
But the sense of touch is an effective way to connect with a person’s inner being.
Holding someone’s hand also implies a message of hope—one way to tell the person, “I am here for you. You are not alone.”
This act of gesture has been filling my love tank for years, and it continually overflows as it shapes my core values.
Blessed enough to be surrounded by a loving family and friends, their presence and the warmth of their embrace left remarkable handprints that have changed me forever.
Nevertheless, we all have our own ways of expressing our affection.
Love is broad and there could be a hundred manifestations or more.
Lend an ear and reach out a hand to someone today. You’ll never know the battles that the person you encounter went through and how you could bring comfort and healing to a wounded heart.
That person might be having suicidal thoughts. You’ll never know how your “How are you?” and a gentle tap could save a life.
Nothing we do is too small when done with love, and a simple act of kindness and touch could greatly impact the world.
Is there really hope from beyond?
